Visible to the server: room name, temporary peer IDs, nicknames, timestamps and short WebRTC signaling packets needed to connect browsers.

Protected content: text messages are encrypted before WebRTC transport with volatile room keys. Audio, video and screen sharing use browser WebRTC DTLS/SRTP.

Screenshot limitation: browsers cannot detect system-level screenshots (Print Screen, Snipping Tool, OS capture). RoomOff detects voluntary WebRTC screen sharing and re-hides sensitive messages automatically if this window loses focus or visibility — but a determined peer can still photograph or screenshot their own screen outside the browser's reach.

File transfers: sent in chunks directly over the encrypted WebRTC data channel between browsers. roomoff.com's signaling server never receives, stores, or has access to file contents — only this browser and the receiving peer's browser hold the data, and only for the duration of the session.

Placeholders & help

Command accepts any RoomOff command (e.g. /me got kicked, /echo $nick joined). All $identifiers work ($nick, $time, $rand(1,6)…), plus event placeholders below.

Available placeholders depend on the event: {nick}, {pattern}, {key}, {flag}, {event}. Leave a filter as * to match anything.

Sounds: /splay <url> or just /splay to pick a local file — plays it in this browser only. /splay stop stops playback. /sound <nick|*> <url> [action text] shares a sound so peers with that URL/file play it too.

RoomOff also plays a small default sound for connect, join/part/quit, kick, mode, nick, topic, text, /me, /msg, /notice, file transfers and errors — toggle it above. Each sound's URL will become user-editable in a future update.
